Direction
- First base side
- Leave catching position in a low position, do not stand up
- Communicate with the pitcher
- Round off approach
- Keep your chest over the ball while fielding
- Always field using the scoop technique
- Take a drop step to clear the runner
- Follow your throw
- Third base side (hardest to handle)
- stay low
- Inside turn with back towards the infield
- Round off by turning glove side
- Sweep with shoulder being closed towards first base
- Make sure you find the bag before you throw
- Drills
- Scoop and sweep – drop ball and use glove to sweep
- Line drill – line balls up across infield, start at plate and field all five balls going from left to right
- Bunts with a coach rolling them from behind you
- Middle Ball
- Dead Ball
- Rolling Ball
